Making creamy and flavorful garlic mashed potatoes is easier than you think. With just a few ingredients and simple steps, you can elevate any meal with this classic side dish. The rich garlic flavor pairs perfectly with roasted meats, grilled vegetables, or even a simple salad.

For the creamiest mashed potatoes, opt for starchy varieties like Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes. Their high starch content yields a fluffy texture when mashed. Avoid waxy potatoes, as they tend to result in a denser consistency. Choose potatoes that promise melt-in-your-mouth goodness with every bite.

As for the garlic, use jarred minced garlic, fresh garlic, or wild garlic. You can even try using garlic scapes for garnish instead of fresh parsley! Along with the garlic, you could also add other flavor ingredients like chili or dried spices for an extra boost.

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs (about 900g) potatoes, peeled and quartered

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1/2 cup (120ml) milk or dairy-free milk alternative

  • 1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Boil the quartered potatoes in salted water until tender, about 15-20 minutes.

2. Meanwhile, in a separate small saucepan, heat the milk and butter until the butter melts.

3. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the minced garlic.

4. Mash the potatoes and garlic until smooth.

7. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve hot.
